“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
We at Saint Luke have a heart for the Community! We give services through our ministries.
This ministry supports and participates in activities sponsored by the Town of Eastover, the Lower Richland Community Ministerial Alliance, Richland School District One’s Local Schools (Webber Elementary, Gadsden Elementary, Horrell Hill Middle, Hopkins Middle, Lower Richland High), and Local Health agencies and businesses.
The Church attends Town Council meetings and responds to requests to organize activities that engage the community, such as serving on committees that organize the Cancer Walk, Back2School Bash, Annual Christmas Parade, Annual Barbecue Festival and Parade, and other activities that bring resources to the community. For examples, the YPD jointly hosts a Martin Luther King Day of Service Soup Kitchen; the Commission on Membership, Discipleship and Evangelism recognizes a Community Service Organizations on each Fifth Sunday; the Women’s Season launched a non-traditional Palm Sunday experience of outdoor service that include a clothing closet, health fair, and community dinner. All of these activities involve the Word, fundraising and awareness of social justice matters.
Several members live within the Town and help keep the Church abreast of social justice matters through their services to the community. The Social Action Coordinator and other members work with the government of the Town, in elected and career positions. They inform the Church Community of resources during local disasters or provide information regarding local political actions that impact members/community. They engage members in discussions and activities involving the elderly, children and youth, poverty, employment, education, government and regulations,, and more.
All these relationships work together to insure the Church remains a relevant resource in the community.
